What is a Live Performance Producer?

Before we dive into talking about many of the conversation topics I have with artists, I first want to provide some insight into the services We offer.

Many of you have probably heard the term “Performance Coach”, “Stagecoach” or “Choreographer.” While all of these descriptions are a part of what I do, it doesn’t explain the work in its entirety. I go by “Live Performance Producer” because I do more than simply coaching or consultant work. I help produce every part of an artist’s live show, to assist with creating a purposeful and memorable experience onstage. 

Most days, I am listening to an artist’s music on repeat, to develop concepts for new live arrangements. There are days I’m on a conference call with a group, brainstorming together. Some days, I’m working in person with an artist in their rehearsal space to create a show. Many times, I’m researching and contacting various companies to have props made or looking for deals on instruments to add to their show. Other times, I’m drawing up stage plots and input lists for them.

Similar to a record producer in a studio, I do the same with your music. Instead of helping to create the music, I dissect your songs to create new arrangements to be the most affective they can be for a live setting. Typically, I am sent new music before it is officially released, which gives me a jump on developing ideas. Some artists send their stem files for me to rearrange their backing tracks for them. 

As my wife says, I never really stop working.

With the majority of artists I partner with, we have an ongoing process of creating and developing their live show. I always make myself available via phone or text and invest equal effort into every artist, but how far we can take your show is completely up to you.
