The Keyboardist
I believe there are two main forms of entertainment that unite the world – music and soccer. In the last several posts, I’ll be comparing each band member’s position to that of a soccer player’s.
Today’s post is primarily for the keyboardist, but everyone can learn something. Maybe this can help a band know exactly what to look for when shopping for a keyboardist. But if you’re a keyboardist yourself, stop jammin’ on those keys, and let’s get to it!
Keyboardists are the Outside Fullback. You look to feed the ball up to your halfbacks to move down the field. You help hold down the rhythm section. You probably are the best musical person in the band. Perhaps you are the band director as you run the backing tracks or call out cues for the rest of the band. When it comes to the music, you generally are the leader. If you’re the lead singer and can play keyboard even just a little, adding an element where you play keys can bring a much-needed musical and visual change to your show.
Keyboardists:
Hold Down the Rhythm Section
Passionate about the Music
Be Visual in Your Playing
Able to Direct the Audience’s Attention
Able to Sing BGVs is a Major Plus and maybe Lead a Song
