Band Positions

Audiences like to see connections formed onstage between band members, and each member’s personality being poured into the performance.

As with any sports team or employees within a company, each member of a band has a specific position to fulfill that requires practiced skills to effectively do their job. While each player is unique and has their own talents to bring to the stage, they must also possess the ability to work effectively as a cohesive unit in order to provide an experience for their audience.

I remember my first time playing with Bread of Stone at Creation West Festival in the state of Washington. We typically arrive at festivals a couple days in advance, as BNY usually has to set up various stages.

While there, I recall the band having lunch at catering with a press person on one of the setup days. To this day, I clearly remember the press lady saying that she was looking forward to seeing me play with the guys because all of the bands’ previous drummers were good, but they always seemed to be in their own world - separate from the other three band members who played as one, in unity.

Audiences like to see connections formed onstage between band members, and each member’s personality being poured into the performance. In the next several posts, I’ll be going more in-depth as to what roles each band member plays and the skills they should have.
