Contrast Amid the Noise - Pt. 2

Are your actions during your performance visually distorting the message you’re trying to convey to the audience?

In my previous post, I talked about the “Noise” in your show compared to Noise in photography. You need to combat the visual distortion that can take place in your show by making all of your songs look unique since they all sound unique.

How you can best accomplish this is by using Contrast?

To my knowledge, Contrast in color photography is how some colors stand out more sharply when paired against others. In your live show, there needs to be visual contrast, not just to differentiate between each song, but also to differentiate between each section of a song.

Now, I have a little homework for you.

Check out the video below of Taylor Swift’s 2012 performance of “Love Story” and analyze her performance. Leave a comment below with a number of visual changes you think Taylor makes throughout the duration of the song. We’ll breakdown her textbook performance in my next post. Looking forward to reading your responses!
