The Lead Guitarist
I believe there are two main forms of entertainment that unite the world – music and soccer. In the next several posts, I’ll be comparing each band member’s position to that of a soccer player’s.
Today’s post is mainly for the lead guitarists, but everyone can learn something. Maybe this can help a band know exactly what to look for when shopping for a new lead player. But if you are a lead guitarist yourself, stop shredding and let’s get to it!
Lead guitarists are the frontline Striker. You attack the opponent and try to score goals. You also need to be skillful with the ball and able to hold your own while you wait for support to arrive from your teammates. Just like the strikers in soccer, the lead guitarist needs to be fearless and willing to take chances. You need to be able to deliver solos both musically and visually. You CANNOT be stuck behind your pedal board! Instead, be free to move around, to make each solo look different from the next! Take the lead and play your leads.
